PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift French Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the season-opening cup on 14 separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille fired two times late to seize a shock lead. First, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital equaliser in the dying moments to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 shootout win.

The record champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the last thirteen seasons.
