The Reason this DNC is Hiding their 2024 Election Autopsy: An Analysis.

This action from the DNC to suppress the publication of its internal post-election analysis on the last presidential race seems stunning but not surprising. Opposed to hard truths, the Democrats' governing body operates more like a PR firm rather than a political organization devoted to building grassroots capacities for winning elections.

A Climate of Conformity

Hesitant to depart from the party establishment's culture demanding unity, the committee has stayed under the influence of the previous administration all through this past year. Releasing an official autopsy might have shown whether the leadership are interested to promote honest conversation about the errors which allowed Donald Trump to become president again. However, the DNC is proceeding under the pretense that there are no lessons to glean following the tragic debacle from the last cycle.

"Here’s our North Star: is this good for winning elections? If not, it’s a distraction from the core mission," a rationale which was presented to justify concealing the report.

Major Failures an Analysis Would Have Explored

A genuine analysis with any value would not dodge certain uncomfortable matters. Among them are:

  • Voter Disenchantment: Failing to retain of a significant portion of the electorate who voted for the party's candidate in 2020 proved pivotal in the close recent race.
  • The Choice to Run: The stubborn decision by a party leader to stay in the race, alongside an extremely delayed exit, is seen by some as robbing the party's base of a competitive nomination process.
  • Abandoning Everyday Americans: While facing inflation, the electoral effort reportedly accommodating corporate donors' interests without successfully attempting to confront the role of big business.
  • The Foreign Policy Effect: The failure to shift an approach concerning a major international conflict is cited as alienating many voters, especially with young people, Arab American communities, and Muslim Americans.
  • Eroding Youth Support: Research shows a major decline of Democratic support among the youth electorate.

A History Avoiding Accountability

The decision to withhold is consistent with a recurring tendency of evading hard truths. It echoes a dynamic in which the vast majority of Democratic officeholder in Congress acquiesced to an incumbent's insistence on running for re-election until a poor campaign event led to an exit.

At the same time, a significant majority of Democratic voters were continually telling pollsters that they did not want the incumbent to run again.

Campaign Spending Concerns

A substantive autopsy could investigate issues about campaign spending, such as the amounts were directed to insider consultants and advertising contractors over the course of an electoral effort that burned through a staggering war chest during the general election.

The Larger Implication

At its core, the blockage regarding the analysis is symptomatic of a deference toward the existing power structure who engineered a disastrous presidential campaign. The implication to ordinary supporters – including millions of small donors – is that they do not have a right to see the lessons party chiefs have learned based on a report compiled from feedback from all states.

An organization unwilling to honestly assess its own failings finds it difficult to climb out of the cycle that proved so advantageous to the winning candidate.
